CauseWars.win is a unique educational gaming website where your gameplay can help your favorite Candidate or Cause. We are building something new to make following politics and supporting Causes more exciting and rewarding for all Americans. CauseWars.win was created in close partnership with legal counsel to avoid any complications with Fundraising, Gambling, or Money Transfer issues. And we are always happy to answer any questions about how we help our users, create grants for Causes, and conduct our operations.
Below is a list of questions commonly asked about CauseWars.win. You can start with the Quick Summary for an overview of our unique gameplay process. You can also consult our Terms of Service. Or ask a question directly to our Legal Councel through the Contact Page.
CauseWars.win is an educational gaming platform that helps users learn about, promote and support political Candidates and Causes through competitive gameplay with their friends. Users propose and vote on which Causes will be featured on CauseWars, become a “Champion” of a Cause, and challenge their friends to take knowledge quizzes or predict upcoming political events to increase the rankings of their Cause. These contests can be played for free or use purchasable CapitolCoins.
To make gameplay more meaningful for our users, CauseWars uses a part of the proceeds from CapitolCoins sales to create promotional financial Grants that are distributed to different Causes and Candidates according to the gameplay of all users. So by winnings contests, users can influence how CauseWars distributes its promotional grants, and thus help their Cause “win” real money from CauseWars. (But there is no way for users to win money for themselves, or otherwise profit from any contests.)
CauseWars.win is owned and operated by CharityWars LLC is a Social-Enterprise startup with the Mission is to use the excitement of competitive gameplay to make following US politics and current social issues more exciting and meaningful for all Americans. We use sports terms like “Playoffs” and “Scrimmage” to re-imagine different social and political causes, as “teams”; that users can root for, share with their friends, and actively support through their gameplay. Causes with the most active champions will get highlited on the CauseWars.win website and social media, and get even more attention from winning the CauseWars Playoffs. Our goal is to empower our users to feel that they can make a real difference for the Causes that they like and support, and do good while playing games with their friends and having fun.
Crowd Driven Cause Selection: All causes featured on CauseWars.win are 100% user selected. Only users have the power to nominate, vote for, and select which causes they want featured during each Playoffs period (normally 2 to 3 months). Causes cannot pay to be featured, and our staff does not choose which Causes will participate. Our platform is specifically a tool for individuals to promote their favorite Causes, not for any organization to promote themselves. Anything can be a cause, from a museum to a political candidate, as long as enough users vote for it to be featured. Causes with the most user votes at the end of the current Playoffs period, will be featured in the next Playoff period. So each Playoff will feature different causes that are most meaningful to the majority of users.
Playoff Rankings and Karma:Different user actions, like winning contests and inviting friends earn “Karma” points for the Cause that the user is currently a champion for. Causes that earn the most “Karma” through the gameplay of their champions, climb in site rankings during each Playoff period. Karma is earned from both free and paid Challengess, so champions can help their cause win without ever spending any money.
"Paid" Contests and Support Votes:To engage in paid contests and other gameplay, users need to purchase a CapitolCoins package to add CapitolCoins to their account. These purchases are not donations or contributions to any cause, but are purchases of services from CauseWars.win. (And are clearly marked as such.) Users agree to a contest by pledging an amount of CapitolCoins that will be used to start the contest, and then lost by the losing party. When a user wins a contest they earn “support votes” for their cause according to the amount of CapitolCoins that they pledged in a contest, and dont lose their pledged CapitolCoins.
Champion Grants: Every calendar month, CauseWars.win determines how much money is available for creating Champion grants, and then uses the Grant Creation Algorithm to aggregate all of the support votes from all users that won contests to determine how much money will be distributed via Champion Grants to each featured cause. Making grants is a non-tax exempt business expense of CauseWars.win, that is specifically used as a promotional tool, that increases the excitement value and efficacy of it's services for it's users. All grants originate solely from the entity of CauseWars.win and it's owners, and are never linked to any user or group of users, or any transaction from any user.
Playoffs Grant:At the end of the Playoff period, the cause that collects the most Karma points will win the Playoffs and the Playoffs Grant (which is the value of 10% of all CapitolCoins lost by all users in contests). The value of the Playoffs grant keeps increasing all through the Playoff period. So at the end of the Playoffs users will have to strategize if they want to win more support votes for their Cause and get a bigger Champion Grant, or earn more Karma, and help them win the Playoffs grant.
CauseWars.win NEVER solicits or collects donations or contributions for any Charitable or Poltical cause. CapitolCoins packages are NEVER sold or marketed as donations or contributions to a specific cause that the user is supporting, or earmarked for any cause at the time of purchase. CapitolCoins packages represent a purchase of services from CauseWars.win, that give users the ability to compete with other users in contests in order to win “support votes” for their cause, and DO NOT have a tax deductible status.
CauseWars.win is not a Fundraiser, or a fundraising website. You CANNOT use the CauseWars.win platform to make a donation or contribution to a political or social cause, or invite others to make a donation to your cause. NO transactions on CauseWars.win are ever earmarked or directed for a specific cause, and money is never transfered from a user to an organization. All grants a distributed solely from the private entity of CauseWars.win, and are guided by the aggregate actions and “support votes” of all users.
There is NO correlation between how much money a user spends on CauseWars.win purchases, and how much money their cause may get from Champion Grants. The purchase of a CapitolCoins package gives the user the opportunity to participate in competitive contests, to earn “support votes” for their cause, and be able to influence how CauseWars.win distributes its Champion Grants. Users can ONLY influence how CauseWars.win creates its grants by being skilled players, and winning contests. Not by how much they spend.
CauseWars.win can only be used for discovering, learning about, and promoting your favorite causes. Users CANNOT FINANCIALLY PROFIT in any way, either directly or indirectly, from their participation in CauseWars.win. Contests on CauseWars.win can ONLY be used to support and promote political and charitable causes. You can feel good from helping your cause, you can get bragging rights with your friends, but contests cannot financially profit individuals in any way.
CauseWars.win ONLY uses Skill and Knowledge based Contests and NEVER supports any Contests that depend primarily on luck, chance, cardplay, bingo, or lottery mechanics. The users of CauseWars.win NEVER financially profit from their participation in CauseWars Contests.
In Event Prediction Contests, users must rely on their Knowledge of current events and history, and their Skill of gathering, understanding and processing publicly available information to decide which outcomes of political and social events are the most likely. CauseWars.win ONLY features public Events that have identifiable Outcome Choices, and are already widely discussed, debated, and predicted by news outlets, social media networks, polls, and other public resources.
No, CauseWars.win DOES NOT promote, permit, condone, advertise, encourage or mention any forms of Fantasy Sports, E-Sports, or other forms of Sports Gambling on it's platform. CauseWars.win also DOES NOT contain or permit any links, advertisements, references, allusions or mentions of websites or companies that engage in those practices. CauseWars.win NEVER uses Sport Events’ Outcomes as identifiable Outcome Choices for its Prediction Event Contests.
There is ABSOLUTELY NO COST for a cause to be proposed, nominated to participate in any number of Playoffs, receive a Champion or Playoffs Grant from CauseWars.win, or be associated with CauseWars.win in any way.
A cause does not have to do ANYTHING to be nominated to participate or receive a CauseWars.win Champion or Playoffs Grant. All of the actions are taken by users of CauseWars.win in support of their favorite causes. There is NO waiting period, registration, paperwork, or actions that need to be undertaken by a cause to receive any Grant or continue to participate in the CauseWars.win Playoffs. All a cause has to do is cash the grant check.
CauseWars.win takes a 5% flat platform maintenance fee from all CapitolCoins and Karma Boost purchases to cover server costs, site maintenance, and content research. This fee is not connected to CauseWars contests and other competitive gameplay, and there are no other forms of membership, subscription or registration fees for users.
After the platform maintenance fee, as part our Social-Enterprise mission, the remaining 95% of the value of all user purchases, (minus transaction costs and fees and sales tax for residents of Wyoming) MUST be used to create Champion and Playoff Grants in accordance with the CauseWars.win Operational Charter.
Yes. Users of CauseWars.win propose which causes they want to see featured in the CauseWars.win Playoffs, but a cause can always request to be removed from CauseWars.win. Any cause may request to not participate in any Playoff, or be prevented from being re-proposed by users of CauseWars.win, at any time, during any part of the Playoff, for any amount of time.
CauseWars.win CANNOT be used to transfer, store or lend money in any way. Users of CauseWars.win purchase CapitolCoins Packages to participate in Contests, and promote their favorite Charities. The value of any unused CapitolCoins can be refunded, but cannot be used in any other way then entering CauseWars Contests. CauseWars.win CapitolCoins cannot be transferred to another user, be traded, or used a credit or currency.
Users of CauseWars.win use “CapitolCoins” to make pledges in CauseWars contests. CapitolCoins represent the amount spent by the User on the purchase, minus fees from the Credit Card or Payment Processor, plus any sales tax for the residents of Wyoming. Users pledge a certain amount of CapitolCoins from their account when engaging in a contest. If a user loses a contest, they lose their pledged CapitolCoins, and the value of those CapitolCoins is then added to the pool of money used to make Champion Grants.
“Karma” points represent each user’s contribution in helping ALL Causes on CauseWars.win. Any positive action that helps causes get noticed and get support from other users earns Karma points. Winning a contest to help your cause is the most common way to earn Karma. However using some of your opponents CapitolCoins to increase the Playoffs Grant earns twice as much Karma points, because a bigger Playoffs Grant will generate more gameplay in support of all causes. While helping expand CauseWars.win earns even more Karma as it helps all Causes in the long run.
Both CapitolCoins and Karma have no monetary or barter value outside of CauseWars.win gameplay. They are symbolic points that allow for easier and more exciting gameplay, and cannot be traded, sold or exchanged by users. A user’s CapitolCoins can be refunded, but only through CauseWars.win support staff, and the user can NEVER recieve more than the dollar amount that they used to purchase the CapitolCoins package.
Creating excitement about the US political process is a core part of the CauseWars.win Founding Mission. We wanted to allow our users to promote political candidates as well as charities on our platform. According to US Political Contributions law, corporations and nonprofit corporations cannot make contributions to political candidates or political parties. So we have setup our company an LLC, the owners of which can make contributions to political candidates within the limits of political contributions for individuals. So being an LLC and not a non-profit corporation, is essential to our ability to create Champion Grants for political candidates and Causes (within the personal contribution limits of the owners of the LLC).
We also strongly believe in being a Social Enterprise company, and combining the best of the Startup and Nonprofit worlds in the CauseWars.win platform. We want to see a new generation of companies that make money and do good at the same time. There can be other options than the for-profit vs. non-profit dichotomy, which limits the creativity and potential of both sectors. There are a lot of great companies doing both now, and we want to support and be part of this movement of socially conscious businesses.
CauseWars.win is registered in the State of Wyoming as an LLC, and based in Sheridan, Wyoming. We collect a Sales Tax on purchases from the residents Wyoming, and pay our income taxes to the state of Wyoming.
